The prosecution yesterday called its final witness in the murder trial of Charles Hanna. He is accused of the shooting death of Jarvell Gardiner, a 17-year-old student of C.C. Sweeting Senior High School on November 22, 2012.

The investigator, Corporal Keith Martin, read the witness statement of Kimble McPhee into evidence. According to McPhee, he was with a person called Jason, who robbed a student of T.A. Thompson Junior High School of a pair of Oakley sunglasses. In the statement, McPhee said that Jason and the schoolboy fought until a motorist broke up the scuffle.

Following the fight, McPhee said Jason gave him the sunglasses. McPhee said he went to his home on Hawthorne Road. A short time later, he saw three men, one armed with a pipe and the others wielding bottles.

McPhee said the men asked for the sunglasses and he turned them over. McPhee said he tried to inch away to avoid a beating, but he was struck across the back with the pipe. He said the other men threw their bottles but missed.

At this point, McPhee said Hanna, his neighbor, came with his shotgun. McPhee said he heard the gun fire as he ran through a short cut. Ramona Farquharson-Seymour, who represents Hanna, had no questions for Martin. Raquel Whymms is the prosecutor.
