SANQINGSHAN MOUNTAIN, Shangrao, China - Bahamian photographer and journalist Eric Rose was a panelist at the recent Beijing International Micro-Film Festival's "Young Directors in Hollywood" training camp program, held in the scenic Sanqing Mountains area of Shangrao, the People's Republic of China.

Rose, who is a senior information officer at Bahamas Information Services, encouraged the young directors to develop their story ideas and to bring the visual aspects of their micro-films up to the standard that would best represent the final vision of their product. He also promoted the appeal of The Bahamas as a possible partner for future projects, including as a filming location and in terms of entering films into Bahamian film festivals, all of which could be done through contacting the Bahamas Embassy and the Ministry of Tourism representative in Beijing for more information.

According to information from the Beijing International Micro-Film Festival's organizing committee, Hollywood filmmaker Jon Karas, Beijing-based actor and voice-over professional Randall Lowell Rees, Beijing International Micro-Film Festival Chief Wang Shaodong, Deputy Secretary-General Liu Qi, Hollywood International Entertainment Group President Jacky Liu, and Deputy Dean of the Communication University of China (CUC) New Media Institute Professor Cao Sanxing were among the professionals and stakeholders who took part in the event.

The committee's website stated that participants discussed micro-film industry topics such as upgrading product quality, choosing the right location for the films, and creating quality short films to open a dialogue. Guests agreed on micro-films needing new and young directors. Participants also discussed the promotion of international personnel exchanges, encouraging young people to create more movies. Along with workshops and discussions, the panel and young filmmakers visited the UNESCO World Heritage site the Sanqingshan Mountain, the pastoral Fen Shui Village, and other sites in the area.

Professor Cao Sanxing said that Rose has been one of the several chief researchers in the WeCreate Global Innovation Team of the New Media Institute at CUC and was a "specially invited" media expert to the Beijing International Micro-film Festival event.

"As deputy dean of New Media Institute, CUC, I am also chief coordinator of the WeCreate Global Innovation Team," Cao said.  "I definitely regard Eric as a good representative of The Bahamas, with his efforts to deepen the mutual knowledge, understanding and exchange of Chinese and Bahamian people in culture, tourism and media.

"We regard Eric as a permanent member of WeCreate, and WeCreate would contribute its expertise and partnership to make possible potential collaborations of Bahamian and Chinese, Asia-Pacific and global organizations in smart tourism, cross-cultural creativity, and tourism media and communication."
