Let's stop the hypocrisy over Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival

Dear Editor,

One of the most hilarious things about the objections to Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival is that some of the biggest complaints came from supposed ministers of the gospel, one of whom actually runs a gospel competition here in the Bahamas. He invites competitors from all over including Jamaica, Trinidad and other Caribbean countries.

His awards are everything but Bahamian He, without shame, hosts his event and seems unconcerned that anyone will challenge, him. I guess patriotism can be dispensed with as long as one can use the church for a cover. Very skillful!

Now this minister and his colleagues are screaming holy hell over the idea to have a festival in the Bahamas, regardless what it is called, that will showcase Junkanoo, Bahamian artists, artisans and vendors. How could these men of God be so negative about everything?

Why would any sensible Bahamian want the Bahamas to fail? This kind of thinking is counterproductive. The saddest part is the people who are followers, repeating the rhetoric. Bahamians who love the Bahamas will support the Junkanoo Carnival, no matter what the pessimists say.

The Bahamas will be showcased and will attract people from everywhere. This will go a long way toward not only enhancing the experience for Bahamians, but also for new visitors who in most cases, will plan to come back next year.
