The following is a note of condolence from the commodore of the National Family Island Regatta Danny Strachan on the passing of legendary sailor and boat builder Captain Edgar Moxey. Strachan also serves as chairman of the National Family Island Regatta Committee.

The National Family Island Regatta Committee is saddened by the passing of the late Captain Edgar Moxey. Indeed the entire sailing community and the public are saddened by the loss of one of our favorite sons and a hero of the first order.

Captain Moxey had a deep passion and love for the sport of sloop sailing and has distinguished himself as one of the best boat builders and skippers in The Bahamas. Even after he retired from building boats and sailing them, he never lost his passion for the sport as he attended the National Family Island Regatta each year until he was not able do so for health reasons.

Captain Moxey was an unsung hero and a national treasure. The National Family Island Regatta was greatly enriched by him. He leaves behind a rich legacy for all of us to emulate and cherish.

On behalf of the National Family Island Regatta Committee, I wish to express sincere condolences to the entire Moxey family on the passing of one of our great sons. I pray that the Almighty God will give them the strength to carry on.
May he rest in peace.
