Happy kids and Christmas celebrations rocked Mario’s Bowling Alley last Friday as local gaming company, A Sure Win, hosted over 100 youngsters and representatives from various local charitable organizations to a Christmas party complete with a jolly Father Christmas and lots of presents.

The event was traditionally catered with seasonal foods and beverages, and perennial pleasers, colourful cotton candy and snow cones. Live music, games and local party favourite, Charlie the Yellow Bahamian Bird, kept the children amused until Santa and his little helpers arrived with a loaded sleigh. However, the children weren’t the only recipients of Christmas cheer.

Principals of A Sure Win donated gifts to The HIV Foundation and Families of All Murder Victims, (FOAM) and made a cash donation of $3,000 to the Bahamas Urban Youth Development Center.

A Sure Win co-chief executives, Leander Brice and Garvin Newball made the presentations that reflected their company’s corporate and social responsibility mission: to invest in the community.

“It is all about the smiles today. This is what it is all about – giving back and making a positive impact in this country; this is paramount in our company’s approach to business,” said Leander Brice.

Referring to the company’s newly adopted motto, “The Responsible Way to Play”, Mr. Brice drove home the point that social responsibility was embedded in their business plan.

“Running our business is not just about making a profit, it’s also about being a responsible corporate citizen, leading the way and building on our success as a company in a way that builds the community. That is our way, the, A Sure Win way.”

The event was a part of the gaming company’s recently launched Youth, Education, Environment and Sports initiative (YES), which is dedicated towards the empowerment of the Bahamian people.

The four areas outlined in the initiative’s name represent four key areas where the company believes it can successfully engage and influence in a positive way, the society-at-large, with a particular emphasis on ‘at-risk youth.’

Earlier in the week, the company announced a key partnership to form and improve after-school learning programmes in the Englerston area. Future announcements that Mr. Brice referred to as, “first steps,” are expected in the New Year and will form a part of A Sure Win’s plan for community engagement.

“What you are seeing here today and also over the past few weeks, are just the first few steps in what will be a consistent effort to invest in the communities that have contributed to our success as a company. We are not shying away from our obligation as an industry leader to provide leadership when the opportunity arises. On that note, we have recently launched a responsible gaming awareness campaign aimed at promoting healthy gaming habits amongst our customers and we will also be launching a much-needed gaming help hotline in coming weeks to address the needs of those who need assistance with managing their gaming habits.”

With the date for the granting of gaming licenses slated for May, Mr. Brice stated that the company is excited about the future and becoming the socially responsible gaming option in the communities they serve. “We expect that the regulations and government imposed costs of doing business will not affect our company’s dedication to maintain the highest operating standards for the benefit of our valued customers and communities. We embrace the idea that our driving force behind our company’s success is our mission is to be The Bahamas’ socially responsible gaming option.”
