The Sandyport Poop Deck Eagles golf club was created 12 years ago as a fun golf group who believe in camaraderie, fellowship and, most of all, charity. The group's mandate was not only to enjoy the game of golf, but to use it to help others.
During the 12 years that the Sandyport Poop Deck Eagles has been in existence it has donated over $310,000 through the game of golf. The 65-plus members are proud of their support of the many charities they have helped over the years and this year they are proud to announce donations of $10,500 to The Ranfurly Homes for Children; $10,500 to The Children's Emergency Hostel; $10,500 to the Elizabeth Estates Children's Home; $1,500 to the Rotary Scholarship Fund; $2,500 to Diabetes Awareness, and $2,000 to R.E.A.C.H.
"This was really important for us to do," said Freddie Lightbourn, Sandyport Poop Deck general manager.
"The Poop Deck Eagles is a club that wants to help the community we live in any way we can and hopefully we can continue to do this every year."
The next major fundraiser for the Sandyport Poop Deck Eagles will be the potcake challenge golf tournament, which will be held this week at the prestigious Albany Golf Course. All animal lovers will be pleased to hear that the major beneficiary this year is the Bahamas Humane Society.
The Sandyport Poop Deck Eagles also thanked the golfers participating and all of the sponsors, including the major sponsors for this year's event: The Mosko Group of Companies, Custom Fenestration, Commonwealth Bank and Wendy's restaurants.
