Swift wins five medals at Speedo Swimming Championships

The Swift Swimming Club is maintaining its name as a club to have super fast swimmers to look out for. The Plantation swim team hosted its annual Speedo Winter Swimming Championships in Plantation, Florida recently, and the Swift Swimming Club made its presence felt.
This year, Swift Swimming won one gold medal, three silver and one bronze and scored 244 points to once again lead all other
Bahamian and Caribbean teams. The team was lead by Alec Sands, Tyler Russell and Victoria Russell. Leading the medal haul at this year's event was Joshua Murray, winning a gold medal and two silver medals in the 50 breast, 100 breast, and 100 fly events. Victoria Russell won a silver in the 50 breast, and Devante Carey took a silver in the 50 back.
Joshua recorded a time of 31.63 seconds in the 50 breast for the gold, and 55.54 seconds and 1:09.34 in the 100 free and breast events respectively, both for silver. Victoria Russell swam 31.63 seconds in the 50 breast. Carey swam 29.27 seconds in the 50 back.
Alec Sands swam in a number of tough events in an extremely competitive 15-16 age group, and still scored points for Swift Swimming. He finished fourth in the 1,000 free in 9:54.52, fifth in the 500 free in 4:48.37, and eighth in the 1,650 free final in 17:41.11.
Joshua Roberts finished fifth in the 200 Individual Medley (IM) in 2:07.67, sixth in the 50 free final in 23.54 seconds, sixth in the 500 free in 5:01.06, sixth in the 400IM in 4:34.82, seventh in the 200 back in 2:08.78, seventh in the 200 free in 1:50.93, and seventh in the 100 free final in 50.70 seconds.
Tyler Russell just missed several medals with a fourth place finish in the 200 breast in 2:20.79, a fourth in the 100 breast final in 29.80 seconds, and a fifth in the 100 breast in 1:05.07. Russell also got a sixth place finish in the 200 IM in 2:08.07 and a ninth in the 400IM with a time of 4:41.29.
Peter Morley got a fifth in 100 back final in 1:00.65, fifth in the 50 back final in 28.43 seconds, sixth in the 200 back final in 2:12.33, and 10th in the 400 IM final in 4:49.37. Paul Bevans got a very respectable fourth in the 50 free final in 24.10 seconds, and fifth in the 100 free final with a time of 53.26 seconds.
Cecily Bowe was in action for Team Azura. She finished sixth in the 50 breast final in a personal best time of 35.54 seconds, and 10th in the 100 breast final in 1:19.50. She also recorded personal best times in the 50 fly (31.14), 200 breast (2:59.42) and in the 100 free (1:01.94).
Celia Campbell finished fifth in the 50 back final in 29.50 seconds. Tristan Russell finished seventh in the 400 IM in 5:13.68, 10th in the 200 breast in 2:46.54, and 10th in the 50 breast final in 35.37 seconds. Russell also recorded personal best times in the 500 free (5:51.67), the 200 free (2:11.25), the 200 IM (2:27.35) and in the 100 breast (1:17.93).
Joshua Murray also got a fifth in the 50 fly final in 27.61 seconds, and Devante Carey also got a fifth in the 100 IM final in 1:04.68, eighth in 100 breast final in 1:16.33, ninth in the 50 breast final in 33.98 seconds, and 10th in the 100 back final in 1:07.71.
Victoria Russell also got a fourth in the 100 breast in 1:10.73, and a fifth in the 50 fly in 27.92 seconds.
Dylan Roberts dove into the pool on the final day of competition to achieve a great personal best swim in her 50 back with the time of 33.60 seconds. Anya MacPhail had several great personal best performances over the four days of competition - the 100 fly (1:14.56), the 100 free (1:03.20), 200 breast (3:00.10), 200 free (2:16.37), 200 IM (2:37.63) and also the tough 400 IM (5:28.31).
Jazmine Trottman also had several spectacular and very memorable personal best performances including the 50 free (28.55 seconds), 100 free (1:02.54), 200 free (2:16.35) and the 500 free (6:13.56). Leslie Campbell had great personal best performances, swimming in the tough 15-16 division. She posted times of 30.90 seconds in the 50 back and in the 50 fly she almost broke 30 seconds with her 30.03 performance.
Michael Walkine had a great personal best performance in the 50 breast with a time of 30.30 seconds. Arleigha Hall was the club's solo Freeport swimmer, posting personal best times in both the 100 free (58.44 seconds) and the 50 fly (28.56 seconds). The club thanks Hall for joining the team in Plantation.
The meet was described as a wonderful opportunity for Swift Swimming's athletes and coaches to fellowship with both parents and other Bahamian coaches such as Coach Rafael of Alpha Aquatics and Coach Travano McPhee from the Barracudas.
