The Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) is helping to make the dreams of a young Bahamian engineer come true by awarding him a scholarship valued at over $16,000 to continue his studies in the United States.
Joshua Darville was the recipient of this year's technical cadet scholarship and is currently studying engineering at Fisk University in Tennessee. The budding engineer was chosen as the recipient due to receiving top grades throughout high school and excelling during his time in the technical cadet corps program. Darville joined the program during tenth grade while attending St. Augustine's College and continued with the program until he graduated high school.
Speaking on behalf of her son, Jania Darville said "I am humbled and even honored to receive yet another blessing from The Lord on Joshua's behalf from the Water and Sewerage Corporation for his top performance in the Technical Cadet Corps, with his focus on the engineering subjects."
The technical cadet program prepares high school students for futures in technical and engineering fields, and Darville is just one of the hundreds of students impacted by this program each year. "The Water and Sewerage Corporation recognizes that for the country to grow technically, it must invest its resources in this program and students with the acquisition of basic engineering and practical technical skills," said Ingrid Strachan-Farrington, training manager at WSC.
WSC has partnered with the government and the cadet program for 24 years to help prepare students for future careers in technical and engineering areas. Both WSC and the government believe that partnership through technical and vocational education establishes the future growth and development of the Bahamas and this scholarship is just one way of accomplishing that.
