Bahamian Brewery renews sponsorship of Sands Light Lynx

After another strong season, the Sands Light Lynx have secured their sponsorship with Bahamian Brewery & Beverage Co. Ltd. for another year. The brewery, maker of all Sands products, has sponsored the team for the past two years and will continue to work with them for the upcoming season.
The Lynx were crowned as champions of the 5th Annual Flag Football Invitational that was held in Grand Bahama (GB) earlier this month, and also secured the pennant in the Bahamas Flag Football League (BFFL), before falling short of the championship. They were tossed out in the semi-final round of the BFFL playoffs by the Johnson's Lady Spartans, but bounced back in Grand Bahama to take the
invitational there.
Members of the Lynx, along with head coach Garvin Stubbs presented the brewery with their GB Invitational championship trophy, as well as their BFFL pennant trophy yesterday. Lynden Johnson and Gerrard Sawyer accepted the awards on behalf of the company.
"Our season this year was a very good one. We were successful in a lot of things. We were ranked number two in both offense and defense, and really put in a lot of hard work this year. Although we did not make it to the championship game, we did not let that discourage us. We played in Freeport, and were able to win that tournament hands down," said Stubbs.
"In September we plan to start getting our team ready for the upcoming season. We will re-tool and pick up some additional players and try and get ready to win next year's championship."
The game of flag football has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years in the country, especially in the women's division. More and more women are getting involved in sporting activities and find flag football as one of the more enjoyable sports.
"A lot of people don't realize that females actually like football too. It's a competitive game and females are very competitive and it's enjoyable. You get a chance to let off some of that anger or tension that you may have been holding in all week. You get to release it on that Sunday," said T'Shera Gaitor, most valuable player (mvp) of the GB Invitational and Lynx quarterback.
"There is more to it than just running on the field. During the week we put a lot of work into learning routes, pulling flags and a lot of technical work, so it's a lot of strategy, not just going out and having fun."
Last season, the BFFL had nine women's teams take the field, which was the most ever since the league started in 2009.
