A man who was released from Her Majesty's Prison (HMP) last week was shot and killed on Thursday night.
The victim was identified as George Nixon, 23.
According to police, Nixon was killed around 10 p.m. on Lyon Road, off Kemp Road.
Police said Nixon was found face up on the ground. He was bareback and barefoot.
"We believe that this male was being chased by two men, both armed with handguns and wearing dark clothing," Assistant Superintendent BK Bonamy Jr. said on the scene.
"They cornered him in the back of a building called Penn's Convenience Store where they shot him several times about the body."
Bonamy said investigators arrested a man yesterday morning in connection with the murder.
While Nixon's mother was too distraught to speak to reporters in detail while on the scene, she did say that she would miss her son.
Police said Nixon was previously charged and convicted of housebreaking but was released from prison after serving his time.
He was also charged with armed robbery last year but the case was thrown out, police said.
Nixon was killed one day after another man was shot and killed on McQuay Street as he attempted to visit his family, police reported.
Superintendent Paul Rolle, head of the Central Detective Unit, said shortly before 9 p.m. police officers responded to reports of gunshots at a location off Nassau Street. When officers arrived on scene they met the body of a man, 44, lying in the street with several gunshot wounds.
According to police, the victim, a resident of Bacardi Road, was shot when he pulled up to the residence.
That man has since been identified as Edward "Sin" Taylor, who was previously implicated in another murder.
So far this year, there have been 78 murders.
This same time last year there were 69 murders, according to The Nassau Guardian's records.
