AID Clay Court Championships continue at Gym Tennis Club

The AID Clay Court Championships are well into its first week with play in three divisions continuing at the Gym Tennis Club in Winton Meadows.Two finals took place yesterday evening, but the results were unavailable up to press time. Both the ladies singles and the men's doubles finals were played.In the men's doubles, the number two seeded team of Kevin and Philip Major were set to go up against the unseeded team of Jamal Adderley and Ceron Rolle, who happened to brush aside the defending champs, Derron Donaldson and Robbie Isaacs, 6-2 and 6-4. Meanwhile, the Majors endured a strong challenge from Marvin Rolle and Robert Smith in their semi-final match. They prevailed in three sets, 6-7, 6-3 and 10-4.Danielle Thompson, the number one seed in ladies singles, was scheduled to meet Tanya Butler in the final yesterday. Thompson has not lost a game so far in the tournament, while Butler survived a marathon against the number two seed Melissa Roberts. Butler won in three sets, 1-6, 6-4 and 6-4.Both men's singles semi-finals will be played this afternoon. Also today, the men's junior veterans division gets underway. In men's singles, number two seeded player Jamal Adderley will meet number four Shannon Francis, and number one Kevin Major Jr. awaits the winner of Harrington Saunders and the number three seed, William Fountain.The championships continue until Saturday August 23, at the Gym Tennis Club in Winton Meadows.
