FREEPORT, Grand Bahama -- Grand Bahama, also known as the Magic City came alive this past weekend as hundreds of Bahamians flocked to Taino Beach for the 19th Annual GB Regatta and the crowd pleasing Sands 'Man In the Boat' sculling races.
In an effort to heighten the awareness of the Regatta and as an official sponsor, the Bahamian Brewery and Beverage Company kicked off the festivities with a motorcade throughout the streets of Grand Bahama on Thursday July 17th handing out free products to excited persons lining the streets along the route.
This year's Regatta marked a new beginning as it was cancelled last year due to economic challenges but thanks to community supporters like the Brewery and others, the two-day event was officially opened on Friday evening and welcomed some ten sailing boats and a number of participants from all over The Bahamas.
The 'Sands Man in the Boat' sculling races were held on Saturday evening and after several heats, Clay Moxey came out victorious followed by Equilla Lafleur in second place and third place went to well known Steven Rolle, who has previously won sculling races at the National Family Island Regatta in Exuma and then at the recent 47th Annual Long Island Regatta.
"We were very pleased to see the tremendous amount of people watching the excitement from the shoreline," said Lynden Johnson, Sales and Marketing Manger at Bahamian Brewery and Beverage. "The Sands family is pleased to sponsor this old Bahamian tradition of sculling as are we are proud to be a 100% Bahamian Brewery."
