Family Guardian Insurance Company has donated 30 pairs of running shoes to high school athletes in Exuma and Andros who, up to now, have been running and training barefooted. Norbert Boissiere, co-founder of Family Guardian and Chairman of FamGuard Corporation, was deeply moved when he heard that there were athletes preparing for the recent International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Relays without the benefit of running shoes.
"We have always believed that Bahamian talent should be nurtured, and our company has a long history of supporting community initiatives that help our young people develop and realize their potential," said Boissiere. "Family Guardian supports many charities and organizations that focus on youth development, including educational institutions and sporting clubs."
He also noted: "We want to ensure that as many children as possible have the opportunity to excel in whatever area they choose, inclusive of academics and sports." On hand to accept the shoes were coaches and athletes from each island.
