Summer jump-starts with a hot beach party

As of yesterday school is officially closed, and tomorrow is the solstice -- the first official day of summer -- which varies annually depending on when the sun reaches its farthest point north of the equator (just a little tidbit to tuck away), but there's another reason to celebrate the start of summer, and it's hot.
Hot 91.7 FM, The Nassau Guardian, and Blue Lagoon Island have teamed up to bring to the public the first official beach party of the summer that they have dubbed simply, Summer Beach Party. And it's going to take place on one of the best beaches in the country at Blue Lagoon, with some of the hottest radio personalities -- Naughty, Randy C. Mary J. and JChris. DJ Beatz will be playing the hottest tunes.
The beach party to jump-start the summer months is an event the entire family can participate in, according to Hot 91.7 FM programming director, Tony Williams. You can opt to party on the deck with the deejays, swim in the blue lagoon, relax on the beach, enjoy water sports, games, grilled lunch, refreshing tropical drinks, or just do nothing but watch the coconut palms sway as you lounge in a double hammock.
"The kids have been in school and they need a break, and parents themselves need a break, so this is the perfect event for them to enjoy together before the kids are shipped off to the grandparents' house for the summer. And once you're over there, it's secure and everyone can engage in the activities of their choice," said Williams.
Competitions scheduled for the day include swimsuit, beach Olympics, domino, volleyball, soccer and even a treasure hunt where you get to keep whatever you find. And, of course, fabulous prizes including restaurant gift certificates, BTC gift certificates and phone cards and cash are up for grabs.
For those people that want to take in all the activities that Blue Lagoon offers, they can visit Dolphin Encounters, or view the dolphins and sea lions in their natural habitat at an additional cost.
An all-day ferry service offers a scenic boat ride of Nassau Harbour, Paradise Island and an unspoiled private island en route to the final destination, with patrons allowed to come and go at will with outgoing boats leaving for the island at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The boat return schedule is at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Tickets for the summer beach party are $45 in advance for adults, or $48 at the boat; $35 in advance for children four to 12 years old, or $38 at the boat; and $10 for toddlers three-years old and younger, and are available at The Nassau Guardian where they have to be purchased to receive the discounted price.
