To the Rising Sun Bahamaland Art Exhibition at the Island House

Thursday 10th October 2019  6:00 PM

You are invited to stop by for a special pre-opening sneak peek and advance purchase opportunity of the latest selection of paintings by London-based Bahamian artist Lynn Parotti.
Join us for a glass of wine at the opening on Thursday, October 10th from 6pm.
"An adaptation of a line from the national anthem, 'To The Rising Sun, Bahamaland', focuses on the state of reef health and the role of the mangrove as protector of coastline and nursery to breeding marine species. Or does it cynically bear witness to our risen temperatures and the current climate crisis in our manmade Anthropocene?
The historical objectification of coral and the wonderment of under the sea is replaced by a full embrace of the reality with which our island nation is faced as the tension in these canvases relay a fracturing beauty. And all this is taking place in the here and now; albeit sooner than speculated."

Shakespeare in Paradise 2019
Every October, Shakespeare in Paradise exposes locals and visitors to the best in World, Caribbean, African, and African American theatre. Shakespeare in Paradise celebrates theatre in all its forms, not just Shakespeare!

Shakespeare in ParadiseAin't Misbehavin' - This joint is jumpin'! Come join us in this classic celebration of Fats Waller's music. Shakespeare in Paradise presents the Tony-award winning Broadway musical for the first time in The Bahamas. Not to be missed!

Short Tales - Ten short new plays. Ten local authors. Nine directors. We've done it again! You'll laugh, you'll be shocked, you might even sing. Revenge, death, bigotry, forgiveness ... and pigs. This year's Short Tales is not to be missed!

Measure for Measure - What happens to a city when its ruler takes a sabbatical and leaves it in the hands of his ultra-conservative, ultra-religious deputy? The Duke of Vienna is a wise and generous ruler, but he fears he is too lenient. So he goes away and leaves the town in the charge of Angelo, a stern man who believes in following the letter of the law. But Angelo is not all he seems...

Old Story Time - Miss Aggie has a son. She's poor, but she is determined that Len will be rich, so she sends him to school and teaches him to marry right—to marry white. But he chooses Lois, an educated, dark-skinned girl. Will Miss Aggie ever accept her? Or will she get rid of her instead?
