Edmund Moxey Cultural Week

Edmund Moxey, was born in 1933 on Ragged Island. A man of humble origins with a passion for community and family.
Educated in Nassau, but with the heart of an out islander, Edmund believed the most important aspects of Bahamian life are spirit, love,music and culture.
Edmund Moxey was one of the first "true cultural warriors". The creator of the original Coconut Grove Festival, he injected vitality and hope of economic prosperity into Jumbey Village.
Despite opposition from political rivals and many hardships, Edmund Moxey was recognised as a true community leader, and was elected to the position of Member of Parliament for Jumbey Village. He stood up against those within and without his own party for the people who he represented selflessly.
This week is dedicated to a Man's accomplishments and legacy.

Exhibition Workshop: Scavenge and Sculpt w/ Lavar Munroe Hosted by The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas

Join us for a new and fantastically different workshop with artist Lavar Munroe on Saturday, November 17th at 10 a.m.! Using his assemblage sculpture as inspiration, Munroe will lead workshop participants in using upcycled objects in unusual ways.
Participants will be asked to bring a single stationary object with them—something they have no intention of using again. This can be an old shoe, cell phone, cup…..whatever can be found. This object will be the central component of a sculpture that will be made using cardboard primarily, and other found objects. The finished project can be abstract or representational or completely wild—whatever the participants want.

BNT Joyful Jollification 2018

Celebrating this long-standing holiday event, Jollification officially launches the Christmas season every year. The 27th year of this festival esteems to grow its network and fortify itself as the premier Christmas festival in The Bahamas. This event is the major annual fundraiser for the Retreat Garden and features Bahamian Crafts, Delicious Food, Children's Crafts, Plant Vendors, and a tasting of Holiday Spirits by Bristol Wines and Spirits and Bahamian Brewery, along with so much more.

It was first held on the grounds of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, then outgrew that site and moved to Jumbey Village. Edmund Moxey designed and orchestrated the festival annually in the spirit of preserving, cultivating, and promoting our heritage and culture.
