Layering Spirit: A Medium Inspired Collage Workshop Hosted by The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas

Using the work of ?Medium? artists Jackson Burnside, Nettie Symonette, Jace Mckinney and Erica James as inspiration, participants will be led through the creation of collages that utilize traditional and non-traditional materials to express what inspires them and moves their spirit. Beginning with a brief tour of the exhibition, followed by a discussion and demonstration, participants will leave the NAGB with a completed collage that has their very own personal touch!
Collage, from the French verb coller, meaning 'to glue,' is the artistic process of gluing and assembling various materials to a flat surface. Collage can refer to both the actual procedure of cutting and pasting as well as to the final artistic product. Using a mixture of paper, paint, sand and any other materials that may be of interest, workshop participants will experiment with assembling various media on a flat surface to create a realistic, not so realistic or completely abstract art work. This a great activity to share with families or friends. Come to the NAGB and explore with us!
To register call 328-5800 or email kcartwright@nagb.org.bs. Adults pay a fee of $25 while students pay $10. All materials are included. Payments can be made at the NAGB?s Mixed Media Store which is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-5pm and on Sunday, 12pm-5pm.

15 Annual Philanthropic Golf Tournament | The Grand Bahama American Womens Club

The Grand Bahama American Women?s Club is holding it Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, February 24th. All funds raised are dedicated toward our philanthropic mission of granting scholarships, underwriting summer camps, and conducting vision and auditory testing in the Government Schools.
The Tournament format is a Four Ball Scramble, Blind Draw Shotgun start at 12 Noon.
Golfer Registration fees are $100 and include dinner and awards ceremony immediately following the Tournament. A Hole-in-One on the par 3 fourth hole wins a new 2016 Nissan Versa! Registration will be open at The Reef Course on February 20-23rd between 11 AM ? 3 PM.

Fish Fry at James Cistern

Each Saturday night, within three months of the annual homecoming in James Cistern, the Heritage Affair Homecoming Committee holds a fish fry under the cork tree to raise funds. This attracts persons from the community and neighboring settlements for an evening of eating tasty conch fritters, peas and rice, baked macaroni and cheese, and barbecue chicken that is cooked on an outside grill. There is also an assortment of drinks available, plus dancing in the street to some good old Bahamian music.
