On the 28th & 29th of June 2013, Chef Jamall Petty host of Island flare Celebrity Interview/ cooking show in conjunction with the Mall at Marathon, Johnson & Wales University, Sandals Hotel Foundation, BahamasLocal.com, Kelly?s Home Centre and various other groups and partners will put on a one of a kind culinary event. Both eleven & twelve grade students will be filmed as they compete in the ultimate high school culinary battle called ?food fight? to win a culinary experience of a lifetime and incredible prizes.





Guidelines for Competition and Recipe Submission


The competition will take place on the Friday the 28th and 29th June 2013. The competition is open to 11 & 12th grade students with a 2.70 and above grade point average (GPA). Preliminary round will take place on the 28th June at Sandals Royal Bahamian


Students must create an original signature dish. Plantain will be the Bahamian exotic ingredient that must be included in the recipe. Typed copies of your recipe must be forwarded to islandflare@yahoo.com by June 8th 2013. Recipes will be reviewed and 15 students will be allowed to compete.


Scholarship Winner Selection


Johnson and Whales will present a special prize to all students with a 3.0 or above GPA.


Ten (10) Finalists will compete in a final round in the Mall at Marathon 29th June. They will present four (4) portions of the prepared dish, one (1) for the judges to taste, and three (3) for display and photographic purposes. The prizes and winners will be selected based on the dishes prepared and presented.


Competing students may clean, cut, prep but not cook your ingredients beforehand. "Carry only what you will use?


They will be judged on taste, presentation, and originality.


Participants must wear appropriate attire during the competition, including shoes, apron and hair covering. Tall chef hats will not be required on the final round of competition for TV purposes


During the TWO HOUR COOKING TIME the dishes must be prepared and ALL clean up completed.


Students will be provided with the exotic Bahamian ingredient (plantain), a refrigerator (to be used by all) a 6ft. table, cutting board and 2 burners. All other food, equipment and tools for participation will be the responsibility of each participant.


Upon you arrival and sign in on the competition date, you will be assigned an assistant to help set up. You may place your equipment and food in the competition area. Please make sure everything is labeled, easily identifiable and stored properly. All competitors are required to plate four portions for judging. Any special power requirements must be forwarded ASAP. Any changes to recipe may be submitted to competition desk on the shows date. You will be given further instructions and can relax until your scheduled time to compete. Once it is time for your competition, someone from the production team will then escort you to the competition area at the appointed time.


Once you are confirmed and accepted you cannot be late for the film date. All students must be at the events ONE HOUR prior to the start of the competition.


*Finalists will be required to:



  • Sign an affidavit of eligibility affirming compliance with all requirements of the competition to confirm the recipe is original.

  • A confidentiality agreement and liability release/assignment of rights


Finalists will be advised of further Contest procedures and policies at this time, and all Finalists agree to comply with such procedures.
