As part of its commitment to encouraging healthy lifestyles Pollo Tropical is pleased to announce its 4th Annual Ride for Charity cycling event which will take place on Saturday, June 8, 2013, and will bring together novice and expert cyclists on Grand Bahama Island for a fun filled and challenging race, with all proceeds going to fund Lupus Bahamas. Here in Grand Bahama, reported Lupus cases grow with each year. Still, there are only a handful of persons that ever get this information. Lupus is a widespread and chronic (lifelong) autoimmune disease that, for unknown reasons, causes the immune system to attack the body's own tissue and organs, including the joints, kidneys, heart, lungs, brain, blood, or skin. Most lupus patients are women between the ages of 14-55; occurring more commonly in Afro Caribbeans and other ethnic groups like those from the Philippines, Central America and China.

Lupus Bahamas is an incorporated non-for-profit organization founded in January 2009 and incorporated on April 5th, 2012. The mission is to place priority on education and awareness through research and literature; believing that quality information is essential for improved health. They want to also foster learning and research success by working with doctors and medical professionals to promote proper and accurate diagnosis which will further enhance the quality of treatments and healthcare throughout our nation. The members are individuals who enterprise to assist with this mandate to assist our community through providing education and service.
