While some new filmmakers find room to celebrate Caribbean artistic and social accomplishments, new Hollywood and Caribbean films continue to reinforce stereotypes of Caribbean life and history.

11 AM | The Agronomist
The true story of Jean Dominique, a Haitian radio journalist and human rights activist.

1 PM |Mas Man: Peter Minshall
Peter Minshall makes leap from designer in the Trinidad Carnival to an artistic director for three Olympic Games.

3 PM |Out the Gate
Everton leaves his home in Jamaica to make it big in the music business in America.

5 PM| Marley
A documentary on the life, music, and legacy of Bob Marley.

8 PM Pirates of the Caribbean: At World?s End
Captain Barbossa, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann must sail off the edge of the map and make their final alliances for one last decisive battle.


The College of The Bahamas presents the 4th Annual Sidney Poitier Film Festival from February 14 - 17th, 2013. Every part of the Festival is free and completely open to the public.

There will also be a Forum and Roundtable entitled "The Future of Film in The Bahamas" hosted by COB's School of English on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at 5pm at COB. Jasper Haeward, Stephen Hanna, Travon Patton & Kareem Mortimer will comprise the roundtable. The roundtable will feature presentations as well as an ask and answer period with the audience.

The Sidney Poitier Film Festival was established by the School of English Studies at The College of The Bahamas as a means of honoring the achievements of a great Bahamian actor and filmmaker, Sidney Poitier. Our aim is to preserve his legacy for future generations of Bahamians.

All films are screened free to the public and are viewed at The College of The Bahamas Nassau Campus, Oakes Field.
