8th Annual Bahamas International Film Festival

at Atlantis Resort, and Galleria JFK

In 2004 the Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) was launched. The mission of the non-profit Festival was to create a cultural arts community, bridging countries, gaining knowledge, and attracting a targeted tourism sector through the film industry.

As a business destination The Bahamas has first-class meeting facilities and its easy access from travel points for industry counterparts from around the globe. As the banking industry has been established so can the Film making industry. BIFF attracts a segment of high-end non-Bahamian residents and tourists. The population of The Bahamas has diverse nationalities and cultures.

Each successive year, BIFF grows significantly. The public relations value received in 7 years is over $20 million. BIFF has attracted A List celebrities such as Johnny Depp, Alan Arkin, Sir Sean Connery, Nicholas Cage, Laurence Fishburne, Roger Corman, Daryl Hannah, Sophie Okonedo, Anna Faris and Naomie Harris.

BIFF has succeeded in promoting The Bahamas as a tourist destination for fun and cinema production through its annual events. Showcasing over 500 films in 7 years. Prestigious publications featuring the Festival include Variety Magazine, Hollywood Report and Moving Pictures Magazine, Premier Magazine, all published in Los Angeles. Others include New York Times, Financial Times, Travel & Leisure, Screen International, Entertainment Tonight, Hello Magazine and London Times.

BIFF recognizes that emerging Bahamian filmmakers and actors are important stakeholders in its efforts. These filmmakers also assist in the development and growth of the film industry in The Bahamas and the region.

BIFF regularly conducts programs, seminars and competitions, presented in more than a dozen schools and youth organizations. ?The Green Reel Documentary Competition?; Sponsored by The Nature Conservancy; ?The Youth Film Workshop?; ?First Look? Sponsored by Royal Bank Of Canada and ? The Filmmaker Residency Program? are youth driven or for the emerging filmmaker. Two Bahamian graduates of the Filmmaker Residency Program have successfully showcased their work at other International film festival and acquired major distribution deals; Maria Govan, RAIN and Kareem Mortimer; CHILDREN OF GOD.

The Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing the local community and its International visitors with a diverse presentation of films from around the world. In addition to offering films that might not otherwise be released theatrically in the Bahamas, BIFF will provide a unique cultural experience, educational programs, and forums for exploring the future of cinema. BIFF aims to raise the level of film debate, participation and education in The Bahamas.
