"What is the price of a child's innocence?" - Zhindzi Mastersen.
The Lightning Tree is a riveting and timely theater production (the debut production of The Peculiar Generation Company) written by law student Desire M. Edwards. It is a legal drama which follows the story of two female juvenile defense attorneys on their quest for justice for a teenage girl who was sexually assaulted on her school's campus. The play's major themes of discovering knowledge and finding truth and healing all work together to illuminate an issue that has plagued The Bahamas for many, many generations. In The Bahamas, child molestation and other unreported cases of sexual abuse are a hugely unspoken evil. This production's goal, is to shine a light on this fact and hopefully raise the eyebrows of those who can make a difference.
