What do you do when you see the following prompt “updates ready to install”? If you allow the updates to run, congratulations! You are playing a part on keeping your computer up to date, and possibly saving yourself from a nasty virus. However, the other option is the one that is most use, “ignore”. The “ignore” option gets used quite often because the user might feel that they don’t have time to update, or they might not know what to do when they see a prompt. These reasons can make us vulnerable to hackers, who look for loopholes and security breaches in programs we use daily.
Hackers have a full time job, and sometimes as soon as an update is done they are already looking for ways to exploit it. Therefore, software providers are constantly creating updates also called patches which address loopholes, security breaches, and bugs that are found in the software. Sometimes, there are urgent or critical updates that need to be installed immediately in order to avoid the latest hacker attack.
