Quarter-miler Christine Amertil led a list of Bahamian qualifiers into the next round of their athletic disciplines, yesterday at the 19th Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India.
Amertil clocked 52.08 seconds to win the first of five heats in the women's 400 meters(m)yesterday. Placing second was Carline Muir, of Canada, in a qualifying time of 52.21 seconds, followed by India's Mandeep Kaur and Kelly Massey of England in times of 52.48 seconds and 53.90 seconds respectively. Atlantic Medical partners with the Barracudas

Atlantic Medical has partnered with the Barracudas Swim Club to host the first Atlantic Medical Invitational Swim Meet, set for this weekend February 15 and 16, at the Betty Kelly-Kenning National Swim Complex.
Atlantic Medical is enthusiastic and excited to be a part of this event. Lisa Bellot, marketing coordinator at Atlantic Medical, stated: "We encourage healthy lifestyles and place great emphasis on developing healthy fit kids with an emphasis on fitness, fun, charity and community. Therefore, Atlantic Medical's sponsorship of the Barracudas was a perfect fit."
She further stated that "swimming is an activity that excels both in and out of the pool as it develops discipline, passion and commitment to the sport and to the overall life of a child".
Dion Gibson, president of the Barracudas Swim Club, said: "We are so pleased to enter into this partnership with Atlantic Medical. They have been a leader in the community for many years and we are excited to have them as a sponsor."
He also said, "Our coaching staff has prepared our swimmers well, and this weekend's swim meet is expected to be very competitive. This club has been building champions for many years and continues to ensure that the sport of swimming grows for generations to come, as we guide and build young champions who have a passion and determination to be Olympians."
Swimming is stronger than ever in The Bahamas, and has rapidly been growing in popularity and participation over the years. This meet will provide swimmers with an opportunity to qualify for CARIFTA 2013 being held over the Easter holiday weekend in Jamaica. The public is encouraged to support the various swimmers from 12 swim clubs in The Bahamas who will participate in the meet this weekend. Everyone is invited to come and feel the Barracudas spirit at the Betty Kelly-Kenning center.

Funeral Service for MRS. AWANDALE PHILIPPA DAWKINS- STUART nee WHITE, 50 years of Faith Avenue and formerly of Sandy Point, Abaco will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Meeting Street, Sandy Point, Abaco. Officiating will be Rev. Napoleon Roberts and Rev. Dr. Carrington S. Pinder.
