Police investigate two shootings

Two men are hospitalized after being shot during separate incidents, police have confirmed.
The first shooting was reported around 9:15 p.m. on Thursday in Nassau Village.
Police said a 21-year-old man was standing outside his residence when he was approached by two men dressed in blue clothing. "It is reported that gunshots were discharged, which resulted in the victim receiving gunshot (injuries) to the side and hand," said Sergeant Chrislyn Skippings, police press liaison officer.
The injured man was taken to hospital via ambulance. Police said he was listed in stable condition.

Atlantis seeking NCAA exempt status for Bahamas

Atlantis hit a slam dunk Saturday night with two sold-out NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) basketball games that it hopes will bolster its bid to make The Bahamas one of the only countries in the world to be given exempt status by the U.S. collegiate athletic association.
President of Atlantis, George Markantonis, called Saturday's "Battle at Atlantis 2010" a dress rehearsal for if and when this country receives the exempt status that will allow college basketball teams to play here and have those game wins counted toward their season play.

Armed robbers hit businesses

ARMED robbers stormed three businesses on Saturday stealing cash and sparking police investigations.

Keith's Chicken Shack in Fleming Street was robbed by a masked man armed with a high-powered weapon at around 2.15am on Saturday, police said.

The man, dressed in blue jeans and a white T-shirt, with a scarf tied around his face, stole an undetermined amount of cash from the restaurant before running off in an easterly direction.

That evening an armed robber held up staff at the VIP Chinese Express Restaurant in East Street and Cordeaux Avenue.

Gunman flees from police after man shot

THE shooting of a 27-year-old man on Saturday resulted in a high speed police chase that ended in a crash and the gunman escaping pursuing officers on foot.

The victim was at a scrap metal company on Marshall Road at 2.30pm when he was approached by a man who, according to police reports, was dressed in a gray outfit and was armed with a handgun.

The gunman shot the 27-year-old man multiple times in the upper shoulder and buttocks before fleeing the area in a 1999 dark coloured Honda Accord with the licence plate number 110848.
