Nassau, Bahamas - The following is a statement by the Prime Minister of The Bahamas on today's Cessna crash in Nassau:
My colleagues
and I learned with great sadness of the crash of a Cessna 402 this afternoon.
Tragically, eight persons, the pilot of the aircraft and his seven passengers,
perished in the crash.
The flight
originated at Nassau and was enroute to San Salvador. I am advised
that all passengers are believed to be Bahamian nationals.
On behalf of
the Government and people of our nation I extend deepest condolences
to the families and friends of each of the individuals who met their
untimely deaths early this afternoon...

Cessna pilot flown to US after crash
MARK Roberts, who was seriously injured when his Cessna crashed on Little Whale Cay Wednesday afternoon, was flown to Jackson Memorial Hospital early yesterday morning by Med Evac.
Mr Roberts, president of FYP Builders Mall, is to undergo an operation this morning at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute to try to save his left eye, which was badly damaged. He will eventually have to undergo reconstructive facial surgery which will include the repair of a broken nose. His left ankle, which was also broken, will be set.
"Other than that," said his friend Felipé Iturralde who accompanied him to hospital, "Mark is in good spirits, he is conscious and remembers everything."

NEMA Commends Response Efforts In Plane Crashes

Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, is very pleased with the efforts
of the emergency response teams in the aftermath of the two plane crashes
this week.
On Tuesday, October 5, 2010, a nine-seater
Cessna 402 plane went down into Lake Killarney, killing all on board.

Three identified from Lake Killarney plane crash
Three of the eight people killed in yesterday’s plane crash have been identified; pilot Nelson Hanna, BEC worker Cory Farquharson and sound engineer Clarence ‘Nat’ Williams. Authorities confirmed that a Defence Force officer was onboard but did not release his name.

9th body pulled from Lake Killarney crash site
2:45pm Friday – Authorities pulled another body out of Lake Killarney about an hour ago, according to Delvin Major of the Civil Aviation Authority. About 30 RBDF officers combed the scene this morning searching for other passengers of the Cessna 402 which crashed into the shallow lake on Tuesday. Second plane crash in two days
TWO prominent Bahamian businessmen, Mark Roberts and his father Larry Roberts, together with their wives, were injured when Mark's Cessna 172 Skyhawk crash landed on Little Whale Cay at around 3pm yesterday.

THE inefficiencies in the regulatory process at the Department of Civil Aviation exposed in an accident report into the Lake Killarney plane crash highlights the need for a complete overhaul of the aviation sector, said Sky Bahamas CEO Captain Randy Butler.
He said revelations that the Cessna 402C - which crashed on October 5, 2010 - had engine problems raised questions about its maintenance history.
He also questioned why this maintenance history could not be located by investigators at the Department of Civil Aviation during their probe.

'WORST AIR DISASTER IN HISTORY' IS REMEMBERED
Last week Friday marked the second anniversary of the plane crash that many have described as the worst air disaster in Bahamian history.
