Bahamians flew in from Nassau over the weekend to join Bahamians in South Florida, who along with, South Floridians of Bahamian descent and friends of The Bahamas, enjoyed an elegant evening of dining, hosted by the National Association of The Bahamas, South Florida, to raise funds for the association’s Scholarship Foundation.
The official holiday to celebrate the abolition of slavery in The Bahamas has come and gone, but the party continues at Fox Hill Day on Tuesday. The festivities begin in classic Bahamian style, with the people coming together to worship in church with a gospel song fest at the four Baptist churches in the community, then the fun really begins -- from watching the children happily plait the maypole to the brave at heart attempt to climb the greasy pole to nab the prize at the top -- and all the great eats that come with a true true Bahamian celebration. It's a day for all Bahamians to kick back, have fun and enjoy being a Bahamian.

WITH the rise of the mega-resort and all-inclusive holiday, the vibrant live entertainment scene once synonymous with the style and charm of Old Nassau effectively disappeared.
Gone are the days when tourists and locals alike crammed the bars of hotels like the Nassau Beach to witness Ronnie Butler doing his thing, or blended on the dance floor of clubs like Charlie Charlie where André Toussaint ruled the stage, or headed over to the Cat 'n' Fiddle, to see anyone from the newest local singer to Frank Sinatra or James Brown perform.
These venues did more than showcase live music. Together they served as a melting pot for tourists and Bahamians of all descriptions, and helped mak ...
