Description

The National Congress of Trade Unions (NCTU) was formed on November 10th, 1995 under the presidency of Dr. Leroy "Duke" Hanna who was also the resident of the Bahamas Musician and Entertainers Union.
The preamble of the Constitution and Objectives stated in part that the establishment of the congress is an expression of the hopes and aspirations of the Trade Union and Unionized workers of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. An organization that is a pillar of the Bahamian way of life with a future as glorious as our past, who's motto "Uniting Workers Vision for a Better Bahamas", encourages Trade Union Leaders to work tirelessly towards solidifying trade unionism in the work place.

The NCTU one of two Trade Union Congress in the Bahamas which embrace of all free and democratic Trade Unions and Employee associations operating in the Bahamas, and exists to enhance unity among all workers and to promote by pooling of resources, information and expertise ,and the active promotion of collective investment, social, cultural and economic development.

The registered Office shall be Workers House, Harold Road, Nassau the Bahamas as or such other place as may be determined from time to time. Presently it is located at Horseshoe Drive and Carter Street.

No. of Unions / Affiliated Membership To date, there are presently twenty one (21) affiliates of the National Congress of Trade Unions (NCTU), with three others holding observer status with a view to acquiring full membership.

OBSERVER UNIONS were: Bahamas Communications Public Officers Union - BCPOU Bahamas Union of Teachers - BUT Airport, Airline, & Allied Workers Union - AAAWU
