Maynard 'Amazed' at Quality of Short Films
NASSAU, The Bahamas -
Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Charles Maynard said
that, after viewing the short films produced by seven young Bahamians
for the recent Eighth Bahamas Film Festival (BFF), he became a fan of
their work.
"You will be amazed by the
quality of work they produced and the significant themes used in their
films," Minister Maynard said during a recent courtesy call at his
Ministry.
"The overall package of films
was wonderful. I was very excited..."

Bahamas will be holding their 3rd annual Short Film Festival on
Wednesday, April 17th at 12 pm. The festival is open to the public.
The event showcases films from students who receive 1-year
training in the field of digital video in the Media Journalism program.
Last year several of the films went on to be see in other film
festivals in Grand Bahama and in Nassau.

'Rhythms of The Bahamas' wins COB Short Film Festival
NASSAU, Bahamas -- It's often been explored, debated and showcased; the connection between Bahamian music and the preservation of national identity is a provocative subject. And it's one that a small team of skillful filmmakers at The College of The Bahamas have captured for the big screen in a documentary called "Rhythms of The Bahamas".
The short documentary made its debut at the 3rd Annual College of The Bahamas Short Film Festival held last week at the Oakes Field Campus. Produced by COB students from various academic disciplines, it was among six films that made it to the final round of screening. Over the last three years, The College has been creating capacity in filmmaking as well as providing the platform for the creative genius in this area to the celebrated.
Brittney Ambrister, pursuing a BA in Media Journalism at COB, was the lead editor for the documentary which took the top prize at the highly anticipated festival.
"It's like an evolution of Bahamian music," she explained of the film. "It talks about the band. It talks about a certain aspect of our music such as storytelling. It talks about Goombay, Rake n' Scrape and Junkanoo, and at the end it talks about how we can preserve our culture."
COB short film festival winners awarded 1,000

STUDENTS from the winning group of the College of the Bahamas' first ever short film festival received a bonus cash prize at the Behind the Lens Photo Exhibition on Thursday evening.
After the results of the film festival were announced by Dr Earla Carey Baines, Dean of Faculty of Liberal and Fine Arts, it was announced that the filmmakers of the short "Jasmines" would be receiving $1,000.
One of the judges, executive producer of Cable 12 Dr Keith Wisdom, said that it was difficult to pick a winner from the three films, "Jasmines", "Surprise", which came second, and "John McPhee" which placed third.
