Cape Eleuthera Workshops Fiction Writing with Richard Bausch Time To Be Announced!

Author Richard Bausch
Cape Eleuthera Workshops Fiction Writing with Richard Bausch April 8-15, 2012 at the Island School, Cape Eleuthera, Bahamas The week-long workshop sponsored by the Cape Eleuthera Writers & Artist Workshop Series will bring together a small group of adults interested in fiction writing to the Cape Eleuthera Island School campus to work with celebrated author, Richard Bausch. Participants will further develop their writing by receiving expert feedback on their own manuscripts in a safe and constructive environment as well as by engaging in writing exercises, by considering issues of craft and of the writing life, and ultimately by cultivating a community based upon the shared love of writing. “Sense of place,” a concept deeply integral to the philosophy and mission of The Island School, will be interwoven into the fabric of the week, both in the actual workshop activities and in “exploration time.” The workshop ultimately promises to be a perfect mix of instruction, inspiration, relaxation, and celebration of the art of fiction. Distinguised author Richard Bausch is past Chancellor of The Fellowship of Southern Writers and currently serves as The Moss Chair of Excellence at The University of Memphis. A Georgia native, he is the author of eleven novels and eight collections of stories, including the novels Rebel Powers, In The Night Season, Hello To The Cannibals, Thanksgiving Night, and Peace; and the story collections Spirits, Someone To Watch Over Me, The Stories of Richard Bausch, Wives & Lovers: 3 Short Novels, and the most recently Something is Out There. His novel, The Last Good Time, was made into a feature-length motion picture that was directed by Bob Balaban. An acknowledged master of the short story form, Bausch's work has appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, Esquire, Harper's, The New Yorker, Playboy, The Southern Review, The Best American Short Stories, O. Henry Prize Stories, and The Pushcart Prize Stories. He has won two National Magazine Awards, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Lila-Wallace Reader's Digest Fund Writer's Award, the Award of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the 2004 PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story, and, for Peace, the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. The fund-raiser is a gourmet lunch with a heaping helping of glamour at 12:30 pm on the 25th at the famed Balmoral grounds, once the stately mansion of a prominent family who made their home in The Bahamas, now the clubhouse and heartbeat of a lively upscale residential community on vast, lush acreage. The lunch is followed by a fashion show with Nassau's major fashion houses participating -- Cole's of Nassau, La Rose, Rubin's, Sarah's Secrets, Splashdance, and The Plait Lady.

BOB Sponsors Luncheon on the Lawn to benefit Cancer Caring Centre – BOB signs on as the lead sponsor of the Cancer Caring Centre’s Luncheon on the Lawn fund-raising event to be held Saturday, February 25 at Balmoral. "The setting alone is fantastic," said Basden, "but more importantly, the cause is so important. Cancer is a disease that touches all of us and at BOB we want to do everything we can to assist in education about its causes, prevention and the care of those afflicted. The Cancer Caring Centre is especially critical for cancer patients from the Family Islands, many of whom would not be able to sustain treatment in Nassau were it not for the Centre providing a home away from home, a place of comfort where they can stay while undergoing chemotherapy. We have been told that all 10 beds at the centre are always full and there is a waiting list. That waiting list could include people for whom immediate treatment could mean the difference between life and death; it could make a difference in the quality of life." Bahama Hand Prints is one of the sponsors of the upcoming Cancer Society’s luncheon and fashion show that takes place this Saturday Feb 25th 2012 , We are providing garments and bags for the fashion show. Charged and exited by this recent discovery, Momo returns to the subway platform to find the stroller she left missing. Momo is at home later that evening when her sister Mina comes in from a long day of work. Rather than come clean with the newfound information about their father, Momo decides to tests the waters. She is not surprised by Mina's disinterested response to her questions about where their father could be. What concerns Mina most are the potential whereabouts of her daughter's expensive new stroller. With her eighteenth birthday just days away, Momo decides to pursue a path to reconnection with her father.
