Are We There Yet: The Road to Economic Growth and Recovery
Wednesday 13th March 2013 7:00 PM
The Progressive Young Liberals Presents: "Are We There Yet": The Road to Economic Growth and Recovery
It is the belief of the Progressive Young Liberals that the youth of our nation is indeed the future. We believe that the strength of the nation's youth determine the nation's ability to compete in this global village; thus propelling our commonwealth into a confident future. Now is the time where the youth of our nation are given the stage on which to voice our concerns, propose solutions and have an input referencing our country's national development. The PYL asserts that youth have a role to play in drafting designs to change our country's status on numerous fronts.
In keeping with our beliefs the National Development Committee of the Progressive Young Liberals has several initiatives that will create a platform for young people and the wider public to be a catalyst in the development of our nation. One initiative is a youth forum which will provide a platform for young persons to not only address concerns but also present solutions on our current economic and financial state.
This youth forum will be one that will give young persons an opportunity to dialogue with ministers of the cabinet, address the budget, the country's current financial state, and educational opportunities. We invite the public and especially youth leaders and youth groups to come and be educated as we all work together to move this country forward.
Date: Wednesday March 13th 2013
Time: 7pm
Location: Stephen Dillet Primary School, Wulff Rd.
We welcome all members of the press to be in attendance, as the youth addresses their concerns and dialogue with mentioned Cabinet Ministers.

About the Torchbearers
The Free National Movement Torchbearers Association was established in 1972 when the late Sir Cecil Wallace Whitfield served as its leader. It was established with the intention of providing political and social interaction for its young members, and to act as a training ground for those seeking to hold office in the party, or seeking political office in the nation. The success of this Association is evident: over the years, presidents and officers of the Torchbearers Association have moved up the political ladder to become officers of the national party, Senators, Members of Parliament and Cabinet Ministers.
In a society where the youth of our nation have represented the swing vote during the past three elections, the role that Torchbearers play has become even more significant to the working of our party. Thus, Torchbearers is that vehicle through which the party can once again garner the support and confidence of the young voter. The Torchbearers Association speaks loudly and clearly on issues relating to youth and youth development in our Bahamas.
The Torchbearers Association is prepared to listen to the young voters in an effort to get a clear understanding of the issues that concern them most, and of the direction they would like to see The Bahamas go in the area of youth development. The Torchbearers Association will canvass the various constituencies in an effort to determine what the youth of our nation are thinking, and to win their support. The Torchbearers Association will set up Torchbearers branch associations so that the FNM will have a constant presence, increase the membership of Torchbearers and attract more persons to the FNM. In this effort not only should we target those existing young voters, but also those future voters who are now between the ages of 13 and 17, because it is these voters who will play an important role in determining the party that will govern The Bahamas in future elections.
The Torchbearers Youth Association meets on the 1st and 4th Wednesday in every month. Meetings are held at the FNM Headquarters on Mackey Street at 7:30 p.m.
