Jesus Christ Centered Ministries International (JCCMI) Co-pastor Jennifer Newton made a plea to mothers on Sunday to make every effort to get to know their children by developing stronger relationships with them.
Pastor Newton, who delivered the message during Sunday's Mother's Day service at the church in the Old Dad Plaza on Carmichael Road, said that it is imperative for mothers in particular, and parents in general to know who their children's friends are, which websites they are visiting online and what kinds of music they are listening to.
She also encouraged mothers to keep their children grounded in the word of God and active in church.
Newton, the wife of JCCMI Senior Pastor Bishop Sheldon Newton and a mother of two, also encouraged mothers to let their faith be reflected in their interaction with their children. She said that all too often parents live one way in the front of church members and another way in front of their children at home.
The wife and mother said that mothers should take care to build up their children with constructive words, as opposed to tearing them down with destructive ones.
She said that parents should shy away from the practice of giving children everything they want just because they want it, and suggested that children be encouraged to earn what they want through good grades at school, good manners, respect for their parents and doing chores around the home.
