One of the suspects charged in relation to a $1.3 million marijuana seizure appeared before a magistrate on his birthday.
Amal Pratt, of Step Street, Fox Hill, who turned 25 yesterday, and 20-year-old Balls Alley resident Randy Munnings, made their initial appearance before Magistrate Andrew Forbes in connection with the seizure of 1,304 pounds of marijuana at Long Island on April 23.
The men, who were both represented by attorney Shaka Serville, pleaded not guilty to charges of drug possession with intent to supply, conspiracy to possess drugs with intent to supply, drug importation and conspiracy to import drugs.
Forbes remanded the men to Her Majesty's Prisons because he does not have the jurisdiction to grant bail.
However, Forbes advised them of their right to seek bail in the Supreme Court.
They return to court for the start of their trial on September 9.
Also appearing in the same court was Ricardo Morgan, a Jamaican man who is married to a Bahamian.
Morgan, 36, pleaded guilty to marijuana possession after police arrested him with a joint on April 24.
Despite Morgan's marital status, he does not have Bahamian citizenship.
His lawyer Michael Kemp asked the magistrate to grant Morgan an absolute discharge and remand him to the Carmichael Road Detention Centre.
Kemp said Morgan deserved the right to be with his wife and four sons. Forbes said that Morgan's work permit had expired in 2010 and he had technically overstayed his time in the country.
Forbes convicted Morgan and gave him the option of paying a $500 fine or spending three months in prison.
He ordered Morgan deported.
