THERE has been a 20 per cent increase in the hiring of accountants during 2010, something Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) president, Reece Chipman, yesterday said appears to be proof of "a greater need for assurance" from stakeholders about companies' finances due to the recession.
The added demand for the industry's services comes at a time when the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) is pushing for amendments to the law governing the profession to increase its regulatory powers in line with international standards for accountants, which have also evolved in light of the recent crisis.
