Quality Beach Soccer (QBS) signed the first players ever to the club yesterday. The under-16 boys' team as well as the men and women's teams will all be participating in the Bahamas Beach Soccer League and the North American Sand Soccer Championships (NASSC), held in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The NASSC is the world's largest amateur beach soccer festival held at the Virginia Beach oceanfront across 20 surfside blocks. It features the best amateur players and clubs in beach soccer and it takes place annually June 7-9.
"It started off as just a little summer camp, that we were trying out. Then it just grew until you had college players and national team players asking to become a part of it," said QBS President and co-founder Ehren Hanna.
"We now see what this has become, and we hope that we can represent not only QBS but The Bahamas as a whole."
Beach soccer is a very young sport. It was started in just 1992, but it is fast growing and The Bahamas is looking to make a name for itself as a power player in the sport.
"The under-16 boys have the best record out of all the teams in QBS. They are the future of soccer in the Bahamas and will be representing the country for years to come," said fellow QBS co-founder and Bahamas national Player Christopher Davis.
The boy's team recently took on St Stephen's Soccer Academy out of Austin, Texas. They dominated the competition and really showed that they have the skills to compete with the rest of the world. They defeated St. Stephens 4-1.
The men and women's teams will be PRO-AM teams, which means that they will be made up of professional and amateur players. Gavin Christie was also named the captain of the men's team.
Club sponsors include Grant Thornton, Heavy Marine and Foundations, Bonds Cay, Sapphire Venture Fund, Delucci, Davis and Co., Mogul, X-Press It, Home and Away, 5 Star Snorkel and Quality Home Centre.
