The Honourable Hubert Minnis speaks at Government High School Commonwealth Day Celebration-2014

On Monday, March 10th, 2014, Free National Movement Leader and Leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition, was the guest speaker at The Annual Commonwealth Day Celebration at The Government High School.

Mrs. Sabrina Skinner, Education Officer for Health and Family Life in the Department of Education, Ministry of Health was also in attendance, along with dedicated, hardworking and proud Principal, Mr. Byron Saunders, teachers and staff of The Government High School.

Dr. Minnis told hundreds of students, that education was the weapon that they should use to contribute to creating a better Bahamas. He told them how he used education to his advantage, after coming from a single parent home, selling newspapers and shining shoes to make a living. He explained that he worked hard and used the money he made to assist with furthering his education.

A good educaiton is what has helped him to get where he is today. He encouraged the students and told them that they can also use education to further their dreams and goals.

Dr. Minnis received a plaque from the school thanking him for his dedicated service to the country, and he in turn donated two books to the school, including Nelson Mandela's "Long Walk To Freedom" and a "Smithsonian Knowledge Encyclopedia."
