Roberts responds to Butler-Turner's 'incompetent' claim

Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Chairman Bradley Roberts said yesterday Free National Movement (FNM) Deputy Leader Loretta Butler-Turner should redirect her recent criticism of the nation's leader at herself.
In a statement on Tuesday, Butler-Turner characterized Prime Minister Perry Christie as "incompetent".
She added that Christie is very good at pleading ignorance and very poor at accepting responsibility.
Butler-Turner made those statements during a call for Christie to disclose whether he was ever delinquent in paying his real property taxes.
Butler-Turner said there should be full disclosure of who owes real property taxes.
But Roberts said Butler-Turner should be ashamed to criticize anyone.
"Loretta Butler-Turner's characterization of the prime minister as incompetent is akin to the pot calling the kettle black," Roberts said in a statement.
"In light of the damage she and her Cabinet colleagues inflicted on this country and our people, she has no shame or conscience to deflect from her government's failure."
Pointing to various "failures", Roberts noted that the former administration spent nearly $100 million in cost overruns on the New Providence Road Improvement Project and more than double the amount it projected its job-training program would cost.
He added that there was "no accountability or transparency on the number of persons trained, or the disciplines in which they were trained".
Roberts was referring to the job-training program, which was initially projected to cost $25 million. However, the government ended up shelling out approximately $50 million, according to officials.
"And what did the FNM do for an encore? They all washed their hands like Pontius Pilate, walked away from the mess they helped create, and feigned ignorance of their five years of governance," Roberts said.
"...She or any one of her colleagues should be the last to call anybody incompetent. The FNM Cabinet members are the poster children for incompetence."
