COB athletes turn in a number of top 10 performances

The College of The Bahamas' (COB) Track and Field team had an impressive outing in its first international meet of the 2014 season.
Overall, the men's team placed third in the standings. Reportedly, both track coach Mark Humes and field coach Bradley Cooper were pleased with the team's results.
In a field with 61 competitors, COB had three of its sprinters finish in the top five in the men's 60 meters (m) dash: Justin Gray - 6.94 seconds (second); Dominic Collie - 6.96 seconds (fourth); and Clarence Major 6.97 seconds (fifth). Talbot McKinney finished in 11th with a time of 7.09 seconds, and Avery Thompson finished 30th with a time of 7.34 seconds.
In the men's 200m, again a field that consisted of 61 competitors, COB had two in the top six: Justin Gray - 22.14 seconds (second); and Dominic Collie 22.40 seconds (sixth). Clarence Major finished in a time of 22.77 seconds for 12th, Avery Thompson ran 23.35 seconds for 25th, and Sloan Smith finished in 23.97 seconds for 38th.
As the lone representative in the men's 60m hurdles, Avery Thompson clocked 8.31 seconds for second out of 16 competitors. Also, COB men's 4x400m team placed fourth out of 16 competitors in a time of 3:26.02.
In men's field events, out of 26 competitors, COB finished second, third and fourth in the discuss. Gerrard Burrows had a distance of 47.65m (156' 4") for second, Khyle Higgs threw the discus 46.61m (152' 11") for third, and Fredrick Laing had a best throw of 42.61m (139' 9") for fourth.
In a field of 24 competitors, COB finished fourth, fifth, and sixth in the shot putt. Higgs had a best throw of 13.19m (43' 3") for fourth, Burrows finished with a best throw of 13.15m (43' 2") for fifth, and Fredrick Laing finished sixth with a best throw of 12.88m (42' 3").
In the men's long jump, Talbott McKinney leaped 6.56m (21' 6-1/4") to finish third out of 15 competitors, and in the men's high jump, Leonardo Romer jumped 1.95m (6' 4-3/4") to finish second out of nine competitors.
On the women's side, Shanaye Rolle clocked 8.02 seconds for 11th out of 28 competitors in the 60m dash. She was 16th overall out of 38 competitors in the women's 200m with a time of 27.35 seconds.
In the women's field events, Ashley Oembler finished second out of 11 competitors in the discus with a best throw of 35.37m (116'), and Knastacia Cooper finished fifth with a best throw of 30.27m (99' 3").
Both athletes also took part in the shot putt, and finished third and seventh respectively, out of a field of 13 competitors. Oembler had a best throw of 11.53m for third, and Cooper had a best throw of 10.21m for seventh.
