Scores of eager Atlanteans donned their walking gear and turned out bright and early for the 2nd annual One Bahamas UnityWalk, held Saturday, February 15th. Following a call for support by Atlantis SVP of Public Affairs & Retail Ed Fields, team members quickly registered and showed up at Arawak Cay for the 6:30am start.

“Once again, this walk gives us a prime opportunity to show solidarity as a company and appreciation for our country as a whole,” says Fields, adding “and, as a sponsor, we are happy to be associated with such a meaningful event.”

The walk is the brainchild of Sir Durwood Knowles, Chairman of the One Bahamas Organizationwhich was founded in November 1992 in an effort to unite Bahamians of all geographical, political and religious divides. According to organizers, the walk’s purpose is to promote unity, peace and friendship across the country in hopes of creating a greater sense of identity, pride and community.

Prime Minister Perry Christie and other Government officials, present and former, including former Governor General Sir Orville Turnquest, took part in this year’s walk, which allowed participants to walk as much or as little as they deemed fit. The walk began at Arawak Cay and moved west along West Bay Street to Goodman’s Bay Beach and back again. Festivities at Arawak Cay
