Shak Leads for Final of PCA 2014 Super High Roller

Dan Shak, runner-up in the 2012 PCA Super High Roller, is chip leader going in to the final of the PCA 2014 $100k Super High Roller. The American is narrowly ahead of Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst, who beat him heads-up to take the NAPT Uncasville title in 2011. The final will be seven-handed after Mike McDonald and Paul Newey went out in the same hand after a gruelling three-hour final table/money bubble. McDonald snagged $217,320 for eighth place having had more chips than Newey at the start of the hand. All remaining seven players are guaranteed at least $277,080 with $1,629,940 for first.

PCA 2014 MAIN EVENT

There are at least 575 players registered for the $10k PCA 2014 Main Event which starts tomorrow at noon. The field includes 427 players who won their seats online.

Day 1a players are set to include Team PokerStars Pros Christophe De Meulder, Lex Veldhuis, Johnny Lodden, Maxim Lykov, Jake Cody, Eugene Katchalov, Liv Boeree, David Williams, Vanessa Rousso plus Team Online's Marc-Andre Ladouceur and Mickey Petersen. Also playing tomorrow are Friend of PokerStars and Seinfeld star Jason Alexander and three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas.

A total of 39 tourneys are taking place during the 2014 PCA festival. Last year's Main Event field attracted 987 players, and awarded more than $28 million across all events. As well as their cash prizes, the winners of the $10k Main Event, the $25k High Roller and $100k Super High Roller will also receive luxury watches from Swiss watch brand SLYDE, the official watch sponsor for the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.

TEAM PRO Q&A SESSIONS - BREAKFAST WITH THE PROS


The popular Team Pro Q&A sessions start at 11am today (Tuesday, Jan 7) with ElkY and Eugene talking about Health & Poker. The sessions are on from 11am to noon in the Player Lounge every day from January 7-10. If you have questions to ask the pros, please tweet @PokerStars_PCA.

"HU4ROLLZ" CONTEST

The HU4ROLLZ heads-up contest against Team Online members starts today in the Player’s Lounge. The sessions are running daily until January 9. $20,000 is up for grabs for players who accumulate the most points competing stars such as Isaac “Ike” Haxton, Randy “nanonoko” Lew, Marc-André “frenchdawg” Ladouceur, and Mickey “mement_mori” Petersen. Anyone over 18 can take part in the sessions which run from 12:15 –14:15 and 20:15–22:15 each day. Entrants can only play each Team Online member once and keep going until they lose a match. The prizes are as follows: 1st - $2500, 2nd - $1500, 3rd - $1000.

SHARK CAGE

The first two heats of the new televised contest Shark Cage are on Wednesday. Qualifiers Gareth "kingcoles80" Coles from Wales and Dana "dahmsy" Dahms from Canada have each won a trip to the PCA to compete. Each heat features one qualifier and five invited pros. Online qualifier tournaments took place in November with the top 50 finishers in each qualifier invited to upload an auction video to YouTube. You are welcome to cover/report on these Shark Cage heats but please don't reveal the results.
