A former employee at Club Med resort in San Salvador was yesterday convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend, who is the mother of his daughter, on the resort's exclusive compound.
Rashid Dean, 28, was found guilty of the August 14, 2011 stabbing death of 21-year-old Oneika Johnson, who worked at Club Med as a security guard.
She was found dead in the security booth with 15 slash wounds to the body. Johnson's relatives, who have attended court each day, applauded the verdict.
By contrast, there was no visible display of emotion from the convict's family.
Dean remains on remand at Her Majesty's Prison. He returns to court on January 30 for sentencing by Justice Indra Charles.
According to the evidence, Dean who worked at the hotel's laundry department, reported for duty on the day in queston; however, he did not tell anyone he was leaving. The van he drove while at work was found on the property. There were bloodstains on the vehicle.
According to one of Dean's cousins, he had previously told her that he would kill Johnson, her current boyfriend Justin Benson and commit suicide.
Murrio Ducille represented Dean. Darnell Dorsette and Abigail Farrington appeared for the Crown.
