Prosecutors yesterday attempted to establish a motive for the fatal stabbing of Oneika Johnson in 2011.
Her former boyfriend, Rashid Dean, is on trial for Johnson's murder. Dean, 28, has denied the charge at his trial before Justice Indra Charles.
Johnson, 27, was found stabbed to death in the security booth at Club Med, San Salvador, on August 14, 2011.
Justin Benson, who was dating Johnson at the time of her death, said their relationship began after the one with Dean and Johnson ended. Dean, Johnson and Benson all worked at Club Med, the court heard.
Benson said he last spoke to Johnson around 8:52 a.m. on the day in question. He said he did not see her that day.
After receiving information, Benson said he went to the security gate and it was cordoned off with crime scene tape.
Prosecutor Darnell Dorsette asked Benson to relate an incident that occurred in early August.
However, Dean's lawyer Murrio Ducille objected to the question on the grounds of relevance.
Dorsette said the prosecution was trying to establish that Dean viewed Benson as a love rival.
Justice Charles did not allow Benson to answer the question.
