Bahamian companies Western Air and Blue Crossings Bahamas have partnered in launching the country’s newest direct air passenger service between Nassau and Havana, Cuba.

Ahead of Tuesday’s inauguration, executives said ties between the two countries are expected to strengthen further with the availability of additional air service.

“It’s all about bridging the gap between two neighboring countries in a better, faster, more efficient way,” said Lindbergh Smith, BCB’s Chief Executive Officer. “The access of easy, affordable transportation has been identified as an impediment to regional tourism and trade, but now with our air service we believe that we are in a good position to facilitate business, tourism and trade opportunities between Cuba and The Bahamas.”

The service will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays using a 33-seater SAAB aircraft.

High standards of service and quality will be a key element to the Western Air hour-and-a-half-long flight, with a privately owned and operated business model providing the flexibility in flight times and reliability in service offerings for better customer satisfaction.

“Our partnership allows us to offer best in class service all around,” said Smith. “Where one partner has the capacity to move clients at a level to sustain our business model, the other is actively engaged in the promotion of trade and commerce and the connecting of people, supported by the ability of both enterprises.”

Tickets can be purchased from the Western Air counter at the Lynden Pindling International Airport or at First Class Travel and Tours, a local travel agency, which offers all of the amenities of a well-versed travel agency.
