EXUMA, The Bahamas - In the coming months, the Bahamas Tourist Office in Toronto, Canada, could very well be responsible for an influx of visitors from the north to these shores through Air Canada Vacations, particularly Exuma.
Ambrose Morris, the communications manager for that office, brought nine journalists from various media houses down to New Providence and Exuma over the weekend for the primary reason of telling the story of their travels. With Air Canada now having direct flights in and out of Exuma, those journalists were able to return to their homeland with quite a bit to tell.
In Exuma, the journalists were guests of the Sandals Emerald Bay Resort, where they reportedly enjoyed all of the amenities that the all-inclusive resort offers. Outside of the regular confines of Sandals, they partook in the Island Routes Caribbean Adventure Tour where they got the "privilege" of swimming with the pigs at Staniel Cay.
"All of them were very much impressed with what they saw," said Morris. "Their stories will cover all of the experiences that they will encounter while they are here. This is huge because through their visit, many others can start planning vacations, and those who are showcasing their Bahamas products can benefit from the influx of tourists. They are going to get the stories and publish them in their various publications so that Canadian consumers could see what's available in the islands of The Bahamas. With the winter approaching, we could start seeing the returns on this almost immediately. The weather here is extraordinary, and that in itself is a wonderful attraction. It's been incredible so far."
Pet Hanna from the Ministry of Tourism's office in Exuma welcomed the guests to the island. She said that Exuma is still pretty much unknown, and it is too beautiful to remain that way.
"It is so important to tell the Exuma story, and really market the Exumas. We're very excited about that group because each of those journalists are from different companies, so we're optimistic that the word of the beauty of Exuma, and all it has to offer, will spread throughout Canada and North America," said Hanna. "The more we could get the Exuma story out there, the more we could fill our hotel rooms with guests. We're very excited about that, and we look forward to many more groups such as these coming down."
Morris and the nine Canadian journalists returned to Toronto on a direct Air Canada flight out of Exuma on Sunday.
