Seven years later the KGBC Committee, which is comprised of governmental and non-governmental agencies, the private sector, civic groups and concerned residents, remain committed to the mandate of educating and promoting environmental stewardship amongst the residents of Grand Bahama.
In recognition of KGBC's 7th year Anniversary, the committee worshipped at Freeport Gospel Chapel (FGC), commencing the 2013 Anniversary activities for the month of October. A warm receptive acknowledgment and prayer along with a special musical selection by committee member A.S.P. Kenwood Taylor welcomed the group of fifteen. Committee Chairperson and GBPA Environmental Manager, Mrs. Nakira Wilchcombe was thankful and pleased to have members attend the church service. She encouraged the group, that while many milestones have been reached, more is required to cultivate an environmentally conscious mindset within the island's citizenry. Wilchcombe also noted the importance of all becoming better stewards of what God has given us by protecting the environment.
"Each year we are equally impressed and thankful for the support we receive from the corporate community, various civic groups and the residents of Grand Bahama," noted Wilchcombe. "As a result of these partnerships, there have been some accomplishments, particularly with the establishment of programmes within some communities and schools throughout the island. We are hopeful that these programmes will grow and serve to protect the environments in which we live and work for future generations," Wilchcombe continued. "However, let us be mindful that there is still much work to be done, and we look forward to your continued support in the years to come, being constantly reminded that it is everyone's business to keep our island clean."
