Chairman of Windermere Corporate Management and CEO of Metropolitan Bank Bahamas Limited, John Lawrence took home the coveted Executive of the Year Award from the Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB) at its recent annual Financial Services Industry Awards Banquet held at the Sheraton Hotel in Nassau.
For more than twenty five years, John Lawrence has been a significant contributor to the development of the financial services in the Bahamas. His enthusiasm for his country and his leadership in the industry is well-known. This award shows the appreciation of BFSB and its membership in John’s positive role model.
“I am very pleased and humble to have received this recognition.” said John Lawrence.
“I thank the small but proud community of Staniel Cay in the Exumas where I grew up in the 1960’s for its involvement in my formative years. At the time there was not a single television nor a single telephone. Communications with the capital and the rest of the world were handled by ship to shore radio.” And addressing particularly the younger members of the audience, John added: “With hard work and determination you can get to where you want to go in life no matter how modest your beginnings.”
Extremely active in promoting the Bahamas in his various capacities, John Lawrence is also the current Chairman for the Caribbean and Latin American Region of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP) and the President of the Bahamas Sailing Association (BSA), the country national authority for the sport of sailing.

ABOUT BFSB AND THE INDUSTRY EXCELLENCE AWARDS
The Industry Excellence Awards programme was launched in 2001 in collaboration with the Professional Industry Association Working Group (PIAWG) as part of the Financial Centre Focus (FCF) outreach designed to profile the industry. (See attachment below) Specifically, this recognition programme profiles role models in the industry for their outstanding performance and contribution to the growth and development of the Bahamian financial services industry. The Presentations Ceremony for the 2010 Financial Services Industry Excellence Awards has been scheduled for Thursday, 21st October. Also to be announced at the Awards Ceremony will be the winner of the annual Financial Services Student of the Year Award, another recognition programme developed under the umbrella of the FCF.
