Georgies on the Beach destroyed by fire

MATHER TOWN, Grand Bahama -- It was at 11:50pm on Wednesday 23rd September, 2009, when the police received a report that there was a building fire in the Mather Town area. On arrival, the crew of the unit initially responding to the call, met the roof section of the building, part wood/stone and the deck engulfed in flames. They along with other units (fire trucks) collectively extinguished the fire, but the building, "Georgies Restaurant, Disco and Lounge on the Beach" was destroyed. Investigators at the Fire Department in Freeport are continuing their investigations into this incident. (Police Photographer).


In other Police news from Grand Bahama, on Thursday 24th September, 2009 at approximately 5:35am, the police were acting on information when they went to the Hampton Road area where they searched a residence with the occupants at that time. The search of the residence and also of a vehicle there, revealed four unlicensed firearms and a number of ammunitions along with some $67,000 cash in US currency. The suspects, two males and two females between the ages of 17 years and 34 years were arrested by the police officers and taken into custody along with the firearms, ammunitions and funds. Officers at the Drug Enforcement Unit here in Freeport are continuing their investigations into this matter.
