Quartet makes moves

Despite bowing out early at the U18 Canadian World Ranking Event Montreal, the four young Bahamian tennis players were able to rack up some points that will be added to their International Tennis Federation's (ITF) ranking.
Rasheed Carey, Christian Cargill and Shaquille Taylor were all in the main draw of the event, which will wrap-up today in Canada. Simone Pratt was the sole Bahamian female player. She went up against American Mira Ruder-Hook, the tournament's number four seed in the opening round. Pratt, the fifth seed, fell 4-6 and 0-6. The championship round will feature the number three seed Gloria Laing taking on Dasha Ivanova, the tournament's second seed. That match will be played today.
In the doubles division, Pratt teamed up with Jessica Cortes in the hunt for the crown. The Bahamian/Mexican duo, Pratt and Cortes moved on to play Charlotte Robillard-Millette and Katherine Sebov, who moved on to the semifinal after a 5-7, 6-1 (10-4) win.
Marie-Alexandre Leduc and Charlotte Petrick who were crowned championships yesterday defeated Sebov and Millette. Petrick and Leduc won 7-5, 6-7 (10-7).
Carey advanced to the second round after defeating Anudeep Kodali 6-3 and 7-5. Denis Shapovalov 2-6 eliminated him in the second round, 6-2 and 6-1. As for Cargill, Carter Lin won their second round match 4-6, 6-2 and 6-3. Juan Manuel Aguilar 7-5 and 6-2 defeated Taylor.
Playing in the doubles were Carey and Cargill, who were eliminated by William Bushamuka and Toshiki Matsuya 4-6, 6-3 (11-9), in the second round. In the opener, Cargill and Carey played Dylan Bednarczyk and Harrison Scott, a match they won to a tune of 6-4 and 6-4.
