Higgs and Johnson Partner Tara A. A. Archer attended the International Bar Association's (IBA) Bar Leaders' Conference and the mid-year Officers' meeting that took place in Zurich, Switzerland.

The IBA is the world's leading organization of international legal practitioners with more than 50,000 individual lawyers and over 200 bar associations and law societies, spanning all continents, among its members.

The IBA provides networking and development opportunities through quality conferences, publications and other media, and has a wealth of experience in providing assistance to the global legal community.

The conference was attended by Bar leaders from around the world as well as high ranking officers of the IBA, said a release from law firm Higgs and Johnson.

It concentrated on the changes to the structure of the IBA, its policies and the IBA activities that are expanding geographically. Members were encouraged by the past president, Akira Kawamura, to look at the Indian legal market too, which he noted to be one of the largest legal markets in the world and to possibly provide assistance as a new legal system was developing in that country.

Focus was on planning for the upcoming annual IBA Conference which will be held in Boston, USA this year. It is expected that this conference will be one of the largest conferences held by the IBA with over 5,000 prominent lawyers from around the world being expected to attend.

Archer noted, "The experience was great! God opened the right doors and colleagues such as businessman, Martin Murbach, assisted me greatly in getting around Zurich. In addition to attending the conference, I had other informative discussions with banking clients regarding the current pressures upon private banking in Switzerland."

Archer, who has over fourteen years of legal experience concentrated in the areas of commercial and civil litigation, law of insolvency, banking law, employment law and admiralty law, is currently the chair of the Consumer Litigation Committee of the IBA.

She was also recently re-appointed to its Dispute Resolution editorial advisory board. She is in the process of organizing two sessions at the upcoming annual Conference entitled "Chasing the Seller" and "Demolishing Legal Borders", which is a joint session with the Judge's Forum Committee.
