A copy of Marion Bethel's documentary "Womanish Ways, Freedom, Human Rights & Democracy; The Women's Suffrage Movement 1948-1962" will be placed in Ministry of Education schools and public libraries so that students and the wider public can be educated about the important era of Bahamian history, according to Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Jerome Fitzgerald.
The education minister was presented with a copy of the documentary from Bethel, the film's producer.
It was a project Bethel started in 2002 and completed it in 2012.
"It is a culmination of a lot of blood, sweat and tears," said Bethel of the film, which is based on the Women's Suffrage Movement, 1948-1962, and its leaders, Mary Ingraham, Eugenia Lockhart, Doris Johnson, Mabel Walker and Georgiana Symonette.
Through 100 hours of interviews with relatives, associates and prominent Bahamians, Bethel along with co-producer Maria Govan captured a defining period in Bahamian history.
The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will co-host two special showings of the film at the Galleria Cinemas, John F. Kennedy Drive today and Thursday, 30th May. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Tickets are $7.
